Maui has a few different annual events that are well suited to the sporting masochist. One of those events is being held tomorrow morning Sunday August 23rd. The Cycle to the Sun is a bike race that starts at sea level in Paia and steadily climbs 10,000 feet in elevation over a distance of 30 miles to the top of the dormant volcano Haleakala. The race can be done in full, as a half race or in two person teams. The event starts at 6:30 AM if you want to cheer on participants as they leave Paia or along the race course. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Paia Youth and Cultural Center. Check out the Cycle to the Sun website for additional details.
