I just had a couple of quick notes on ways you can benefit the Paia Youth and Cultural Center and The Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project.
I will be at Whole Foods in Kahului from 11:00-2:00 PM today as part of the team representing the Paia Youth And Cultural Center (PYCC). Whole Foods will be giving 5% of their sales today to PYCC. This is a great opportunity to pick up some groceries and support this fantastic community organization. PYCC is a program based youth center located on the beach at Paia Bay. Programs include the Hekili Multimedia Lab, RadiOpio, Malama Pono Project Venture, The Paia Bay Cafe and the Stonewave Skate Park. PYCC attracts kids from all over the North Shore, Upcountry and Central Maui. If you are unable to make it by Whole Foods today, you may donate directly to PYCC online.
I first became aware of the efforts to reforest the slopes of Haleakala a couple of years ago when I heard this great talk by Dr. Art Medeiros at TEDxMaui. If you have twenty minutes, this video is well worth your time.
The Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project is raising funds online to help plant an additional 1,000 native trees in the Nakula Natural Reserve high on the leeward slopes of Haleakala. Here is an overview of the project:
They have one more week to raise just over $1,000 to complete this project. You may donate online to the Maui Forest Bird Recovery today.
