There are quite a few festivals scheduled over the next week and a half on Maui. If you are a fan of food, music or movies, there is going to be some event that will pique your interest.

The fun starts today in Kapalua with the Kapalua Wine and Food Festival. The event brings together world class winemakers, master sommeliers and fantastic chefs for a weekend of culinary treats. Events include wine tastings, sumptuous feasts, wine pairing exhibitions and night time events and parties. This year’s event has proven to be a popular with festival passes and many individual events sold out. That being said, there are still tickets available for The Grand Tasting and the Maui Seafood Festival. You can buy tickets and check out more information on the festival at the Kapalua website.

Saturday night, The Maui Arts and Cultural Center (MACC) will be hosting the Zenshin Daiko-12th Annual Taiko Festival in the Castle Theater. Taiko drumming originates out of Japan. It is more recently a form of ensemble drumming practiced in Japanese communities throughout the world. Maui’s own Zenshin Daiko hosts the event. Kagama Kai from the San Francisco Bay Area will also be performing. The festival starts at 7:00 PM.

Sunday, the MACC hosts the Republik Music Festival in Celebration of the Hard Rock Cafe Lahaina’s 40th Anniversary. This event features reggae greats Steel Pulse, Matisyahu, Rebelution and more. The Republik Music Festival will be held outside on the lawn of the A&B amphitheater. Gates open at 3:00 and the music starts at 4:00 PM.

Wednesday marks the start of the Maui Film Festival at Wailea. This five day event combines movie shorts, documentary film making, indie films and big screen Hollywood all in a beautiful setting. The highlight of the event is the Celestial Cinema held every night under the stars on Wailea’s Emerald and Gold Golf Courses. Of course, that is a lot more than movies happening at this festival. There is the Taste of Wailea, The Starry Night Moondance, the Taste of Chocolate, celebrity tributes, film maker panels and more. In addition to the events scheduled at the beautiful Wailea Resort, films will also be shown in Kahului at the MACC. You can check out the full schedule of movies and events on the Maui Film Festival website.

It will be a fun ten days on the Valley Isle. It just goes to show life is more than just the beach on Maui.
