Busy Weekend on Tap in Maui

This is a pretty busy Saturday on Maui with fun events happening in Kihei and in the Upcountry. The always popular Whale Day will be held Saturday at Kalama Park in Kihei. The festival kicks off with the Parade of Whales at 9:00 AM. The parade runs from the Kihei Public Library just past Kalama Park to Auhana Street. There will be live music on stage throughout the day featuring a number of great performers including Willie K., George Kahomoku Jr., John Cruz, Marty Dread, Gomega, Micah Wolf and more. There are also games and activities for the kids, environmental displays and lots of great food. There will be shuttle service to and from the event running from Hope Chapel and Azeka Place Shopping Center. This celebration of Maui’s most famous winter visitors is always popular with visitors and residents alike

The Upcountry Sustainability Festival will be happening Saturday from 10:00-2:00 in Pukalani at the Kamehameha Elementary School Namahana Cafeteria. This event is free and open to all that are interested in the art and science of sustainability. Advice and information on Organic Gardening, composting, community gardens and home based wind and solar power will be available. George Kaya, a representative of Governor Linda Lingle will be speaking at 10:30 about the state’s energy initiatives. Mayor Charmaine Tavares will be speaking at 1:00 to talk about renewable energy on Maui. Many of Maui’s sustainable energy companies, sustainable businesses and agribusinesses will have exhibits on display. It should be a great weekend for fun earth related events on Maui.
