A Paia landmark will be opening its doors again tonight after being closed since Christmas Eve. Charley’s Bar has been closed after an electrical fire did extensive damage to the bar area. The restaurant was able to reopen within a month of the fire, but the bar itself required significant repair and renovation. Today workers were frantically putting finishing touches on the interior prior to opening. Charley’s has been in existence since 1969. It has gained fame through occasional performances by island resident Willie Nelson. Willie will usually play one or two concerts a year in the small venue. Willie’s concerts at Charley’s are word of mouth, yet they always draw a huge crowd.
