Charley’s Restaurant in Paia is a North Shore landmark that has been in existence since 1969. The bar is also known by some as Willie Nelson’s Bar due to all of Willie’s Gold and Platinum records on the walls and his occasional impromptu performances. The bar and restaurant were heavily damaged by a fire early on Christmas Morning. The restaurant may be open within the month while the bar is likely to be closed for at least three months. Of course this means many employees will be out of work. The community is rallying to support the employees by holding a benefit tomorrow at the Paia Market Place from 2:00-7:00. The market place is on Makai side of the highway on the west end of the town across from the public parking lot. The event will feature music by Hot Apple Pie, the Haiku Hillbillies, Kanoa, North Shore Buzz and Ricky and the Drums. There will also be food and a raffle. Call 280-5990 for additional information.
