Chopra Wins Mercedes Championship

Swede Daniel Chopra won the first event of this year’s PGA tour at Kapalua today after a five hole playoff against Steve Stricker. Both players ended tournament play 18 under par. Chopra won with a birdie put as the sun was setting at Kapalua. While the trade winds were a factor in the previous three rounds, today’s event was played under light east winds and beautiful sunny skies. Top ten finishers of note included Jim Furyk (tied for 5th), Justin Leonard (tied for 8th and Mark Calchavecia (tied for 10th). Last year’s winner Vijay Singh tied for 12th. Chopra earned $1,100,000, a new Mercedes and an invite to the Masters.
