Thanksgiving week is a great time to visit Maui. The weather on the mainland is starting to get colder while our island offers warm breezes, sunshine, swaying palm trees and some great college basketball. No, that last part wasn’t a typo. The EA Sports Maui Invitational is arguably the best early season NCAA basketball tournament. The event consistently attracts some of the best college basketball programs in the country. This years tourney field includes Kentucky, UConn, Oklahoma, Witchita State, Washington, Virginia, Michigan State and host school Chaminade.
I had the opportunity to attend the tournament for the first time last year. The Lahaina Civic Center offers an intimate venue where fans are close to all the action. This is great event for fans and alums to support their favorite team and soak in some Maui sunshine. For island sport fans, its a good opportunity to watch top college athletics without hopping on a plane.
