The weather pattern is starting to show some seasonal changes. The trade winds are expected to calm over the weekend as winter weather gets more active in the Northern Pacific above Hawaii. This is one of my favorite times of year on Maui. When the trades slow, the cloak of clouds that drapes the flanks of Haleakala and the West Maui mountains. The mountains shimmer emerald with the more frequent rain this time of year. The nights become a bit more crisp making for absolutely perfect sleeping weather. Of course the waves start to put on their winter display breaking with increasing size and strength.
This is another beautiful Maui sunset that Billy’s wife Carla took the other night. It is beautiful in its subtlety. This time of year we often get some of our more dramatic sunsets as high clouds from Pacific storm systems mix with the lower trade clouds to create a multi layered light show.
