There are a couple of great festivals happening this weekend on Maui. If you are in East Maui, Maui Fest Hawaii is hosting its Hana Film Festival down at Hana Bay. This event combines good music with award winning films from Hawaii, the Pacific Rim and other parts of the globe. The musical performers will have a Hawaiian feel with a little New Orleans twist. Performers will include Charmaine Neville of the famous Neville family of New Orleans music, Grammy award winners George & Keoki Kahumoku, Uncle Boy Kanae, Bradda Francis and Lono, the Zenshin Daiko Taiko Drummers, Hula Performances and more. Gates open at 3:30. Bring your own blankets and lawn chairs. Proceeds from Food booths and arts and crafts booths will go towards Hana Non Profits.
The Maui Arts and Cultural Center will be hosting a Storytelling Festival tomorrow with workshops during the day and a performance at the McCoy Theater at night. This year’s workshops will highlight storytelling through the use of objects, dramatic interpretation, and through the voice in mele or poetic form. The night performance will feature two master story tellers. Check out the MACC web page for additional information.
