There are lots of things happening on Maui for Fourth of July weekend with fun for the whole family. Here are some of the highlights.
Makawao has fun events planned all weekend with the annual Makawao Rodeo and Fourth of July parade. The rodeo starts today at the Oskie Rice Arena with qualifying events beginning at 9:00 AM. All qualifying events are free admission. Qualifying continues through the day on Friday. One of the most popular events of the rodeo is the bull bash. That happens Friday night at 7:00. Saturday morning brings the annual Fourth of July parade. Stick horse races start at 8:45 with the parade itself scheduled for a 9:00 AM start. Arrive early for a good spot along the parade route.The rodeo continues on Saturday and Sunday with a variety of competitions. Gates open at 11:00 on Saturday and Sunday with the event scheduled to start at 1:00.
Lahaina is the place to be for fireworks. They will be shooting off from the harbor starting at 8:00. There are lots of cruises available for those that would like to see the fireworks from the water. Check out Trilogy Maui and the Pacific Whale Foundation for information on some of their cruise options. For those that are watching by land, the Lahaina Public Library and Wharf Cinema will be hosting music prior to the big show.
For those that would like to get off island, Lanai is holding its 16th Annual Pineapple Festival. The festival is held in Dole Park from 4:00PM-10:00PM. The event includes food, crafts, music, pineapple eating contests, pineapple cooking contests and more. A fireworks display is held after dark. There are special late ferry services leaving Lanai for those that want to come back the same night.
Last but not least, I wanted to put in a plug for my friends over at Wings Hawaii. They are having a summer sale today at the Pauwela Cannery in Haiku. The sale lasts all day with pupus and drinks from 5:00-9:00PM.
