Fourth of July Weekend on Maui
There are quite a few events on the calendar for the holiday weekend on Maui. The action starts tonight at Wailuku’s First Friday. Every First Friday of the month, the merchants of Wailuku hold a street party along Market Street with musical performances and a lot more. The event has steadily grown in popularity since it’s began a couple of years ago to the point that it now draws big crowds. The fun runs from 6:00-9:00 PM.
Heading Upcountry, Makawao takes center stage with the Annual Makawao Rodeo and Paniolo Parade. The rodeo is happening tonight through Sunday at the Oskie Rice Arena up Olinda Road. The always popular Bull Bash is tonight at 7:00 PM. Saturday and Sunday’s Rodeo events start at 1:00 pm. Saturday morning, the streets around Makawao will be closed off between 8:30 and 8:45 AM for the Paniolo Parade. There is a keiki stick race to start the parade at 8:45 while the parade itself will begin at approximately 9:00. The parade starts around the veteran’s cemetery on Baldwin, makes it’s way up the hill into downtown Makawao before finishing at Eddie Tam Park on Makawao Avenue. Parking and a shuttle service to the parade route is available from the Oskie Rice Arena.
If you are looking for fireworks on the Fourth, Lahaina Town is your best bet. The Lahaina Town Action Committee will be hosting a Front Street Food Fair at Campbell Park. There will be live music and food from local restaurants starting at 4:00 and running until 9:00 PM. You will want to take a break from the food and music around 8:00 and turn your attention to the waters off of Front Street and Lahaina Harbor as the Chamber of Commerce presents the 12th annual fourth fireworks celebration.
