I had a spare moment so I thought I would touch on a couple of subjects on the blog. The first involves the Winter Olympics. The second subject deals with a celebration of Maui’s favorite winter time visitors.
When you think of Maui, the Winter Olympics are about the last thing that comes to mind. That being said, a part time Maui resident has been one of the stars of the U.S. Olympic team. Downhill skier Julia Mancuso has won two silver medals thus far. During the off season, Julia calls the North Shore of Maui her home. The wind and waves provide good cross training for her snow bound pursuits. A big congratulations to Julia on her Olympic success.
Tomorrow is Whale Day at Kalama Park in Kihei. The festival kicks off at 9:00 AM with a parade and runs until sunset. The event includes educational displays, a keiki carnival, silent auction, handicrafts, food from lots of great restaurants and live music. Musical performers include Cecilio and Kapono, John Cruz, Marty Dread, George Kahumoku Jr., Anuhea and more. It should be a fun event for all.
A happy Aloha Friday to all. It should be another great weekend on Maui wherever you are on this beautiful island.
