The Lahainaluna Lunas will be playing in the state division II football finals tonight at Aloha Stadium in Oahu. They will be facing off against the Iolani School of Oahu. The Lunas go into the game as favorites and the division II playoffs number one seed after compiling a 8-1 record in the regular season and vanquishing last weekend’s semifinal opponent easily. Lahainaluna is the primary high school for students living in Lahaina and the rest of West Maui. The school has a long and proud history. Founded in 1831, the school was founded by protestant missionaries who had convinced Hawaiian Royalty the importance of education. In addition to being the oldest school in Hawaii, it is also the oldest high school west of the Rocky Mountains. The school hopes to add a new chapter to its history with its first state title in football. A victory tonight would also mark the second year in a row that Maui has won the division II crown. Last year King Kekaulike High School in Maui’s Upcountry won the state title. We wish the Lunas the best of luck in tonight’s big game!
