The Honolulu Star Bulletin ran an article this weekend on the increase in Green Building design in Hawaii. In some ways, Hawaii is both ahead of the curve and behind the curve. The seclusion of some Hawaii properties has led some home owners to adapt green practices as early as the 60s. Catchment water and solar and wind power have long been optimized in rural areas. On the grid photovoltaic has been growing steadily over the last few years. With that exception, green building practices have been a little slower to catch on in the on the grid areas of Hawaii. This is starting to change with increase demand as home owners are becoming more mindful of their impact on the environment. It will be exciting to watch the growth of this segment of the market over the next few years. We will continue to keep our eyes peeled for green construction resources in Maui and will post them on the Maui Real Estate Blog.
