This is just a quick reminder that Monday is the deadline to file for a home owner exemption for the 2008-2009 tax year. Home owners who use their Maui property as their primary residence may file for an exemption with the county of Maui. During the 2007-2008 tax year, eligible home owners who were approved for their exemption were able to deduct an exemption of $300,000 from their homes assessed value. The 2008-2009 tax exemption value and home owner tax rates will be determined by county council during the spring of 2008.
