I have to admit, I am pretty envious of kids growing up on Maui. I feel lucky in my own right living here as an adult, but this island is one big play ground for kids. Here is a quick video by Tatiana Howard of Billy’s son Ryder, his buddy Taj and Tatiana enjoying some waves inside at Ho’okipa.
Tatiana can testify to how fun it can be to grow up on Maui. Her time playing in the ocean as a kid built the foundation for her career as a professional windsurfer and water woman. Tatiana is one of the founders of a great woman’s water sport event called the Butterfly Effect. The event brings together women interested in kite surfing, windsurfing and stand up paddling for a non competitive ocean sport event. On Maui, the women do a downwind coast run along Maui’s North Shore. The event has since spread to coastal cities all over the world. There is a kickoff for this year’s Butterfly Effect Friday Night the 28th at Cafe Mambo in Paia. The event runs from 6:00-10:00 PM. A portion of the night’s proceeds will be used to help fund this year’s Butterfly Effect.
