Since 1999, surf companies have been offering rewards for the biggest waves ridden on the planet. For the last couple of years, the distinction has been bestowed upon rides at the legendary tow surf break Jaws located just off the cliffs of Haiku on the North Shore of Maui. Last year’s winner was Maui’s own Pete Cabrinha. The nominees for the biggest wave of the year have just been released and again Jaws has three waves in contention. The other two waves were ridden at a break near Monterey, Califonia called Ghost Trees. The winner will be announced on April 22nd.
