The Kapalua Resort Company’s plans to complete its resort through a final phase dubbed Kapalua Mauka. The plan is to have 690 units on 450 acres. The area will include residential, commercial space and upto 27 holes of golf. The plan is being reviewed by the Maui County Council Land Use Committee. A Wednesday meeting resulted in no forward progress and a number of questions. The primary concern of the council pertains to affordable housing units associated with the development. In dispute are the number and location of the units. There is likely to be continued debate as the county and resort company work to reach a compromise. The Jalbert brothers will continue to monitor this debate. For more information on Wednesday’s meeting and Kapalua Mauka, check out today’s Maui News.
