The Maui News had an article on a community meeting regarding a proposed development in Kula. Waiakoa Ranch, would be an agriculturally zoned development with 86 large lots in the area between Pulehu Road and Naalae Road below Kula Highway. The development would feature large lots between 6 and 40 acres. The development has received preliminary subdivision approval, but has yet to receive final approval. Kula 1800 investment partners is the owner and developer of the project. They hope to have the former pineapple fields ready for sale in about four years time.
Local residents have raised concerned on traffic impacts particularly on Naalae Road. The developer spokesman Charlie Jencks attempted to address those concerns during the meeting, saying that construction traffic would be directed on to Pulehu Road. While some neighbors were satisfied with the response. Others wanted more and they wanted commitments from the developer in writing.
