Having the Fourth of July holiday in the middle of the week seems to have thrown off the clocks of more than a few people that I talked to this week. Most had to put a hiatus on their holiday celebrations as they headed back to work over the last two days. The Fourth of July festivities resume tonight with the Makawao Rodeo and Parade.
Tonight is the Bull Bash up at Oskie Rice Arena about a mile above Makawao town. Tickets are $15 for the event. It should be a fun night as “paniolos” or cowboys from all over the state test their mettle against the Bulls.
Tomorrow morning is the annual Paniolo Parade through Makawao starting at 9:00 AM. Arrive early and take advantage of the free shuttle parking from Oskie Rice Arena.
The rodeo is scheduled to resume Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 PM. Horse racing and steer chasing are featured events on Saturday and Sunday.
Head Upcountry this weekend to see some of this part of the island’s unique Paniolo culture.
