Maui’s visitor’s bureau has started a new campaign targeting repeat island visitors called Malama Maui. The term translates to preserve Maui with a focus on agriculture, ecologically friendly sites, hiking trails and shopping at family owned mom and pop shops. Some of the businesses that are being featured include three Upcountry businesses covered in our most recent Coconut Chronicles. Tedeschi Vineyards, Surfing Goat Dairy and Alii Kula Lavendar are cited as small agricultural businesses worth exploring. Cultural sites featured in the promotion will include ancient Hawaiian Heiau and churches. The campaign is likely to expose many of the great attractions that give Maui its character while bolstering the coffers of Maui owned businesses.
