Maui Coffee Farm Homes

Topics

A developer in the Ka’anapali area is planning on creating a new subdivision with a heavy emphasis on growing coffee. The project is currently being planned under the name Pioneer Farms. It will include 58 5 acre lots. For each lot, one acre will allocated for the homesite while the remaining 4 acres will be dedicated to coffee trees. With Maui’s Sugar Cane and Pineapple fields starting to go fallow, this is one of a couple of developments dedicated to preserving agriculture through new crops. Peahi Farms in Haiku on Maui’s North Shore is another development that is allocating a significant amount of acreage to a variety of agricultural products. The foothills of the West Maui mountains above Ka’anapali has good potential for coffee. While the Big Island has long been Hawaii’s coffee hot bed, coffee growers are finding success and growing diverse flavors of beans on Maui. It is a promising industry for the future as Maui strives to preserve it’s agricultural roots. The subdivision still needs to go through the approval processes with the county. Time frame for sales and sale prices have yet to be determined. The Jalbert Brothers will be monitoring this development and will post additional information in future blog posts.
