Maui Does it Again

When Stephen Leatherman aka “Dr. Beach” did his very first list on the best beaches in America back in 1991, Kapalua Bay was ranked # 1. Fifteen years later, Leatherman declared another beach up in Kapalua to be the nation’s best. This year’s winner was D.T. Flemming Beach Park. Dr. Beach cited D.T. Fleming’s weather, water quality, sand, amenities and parking as factors in declaring it the nation’s best. These were just some of over 50 criteria used when reviewing our country’s shorelines. Maui’s Hamoa Beach was also nominated as one of the top ten beaches. This is the fourth time that a Maui Beach has been selected as #1 in America. It is one of the many reasons why Maui is a special place.
