The Maui News had an article on Maui Land and Pineapple Company’s development plans in the Pukalani and Kapalua areas respectively. The company has filed plans for a new residential project in Pukalani while dropping plans for the Upcountry Town Center commercial site. The new 52 acre development in Pukalani dubbed Kauhale Lani will be a project with housing bound for the open market as well as an affordable housing component. It appears that the development could have a maximum of 155 houses. As part of the project, a 38 acre parcel along the Pukalani bypass will be allocated to open space. It will likely have a small park and jogging trail. The Upcountry Town center was to be a mixed use development involving light cottage industry, commercial property and multi-family housing in an area across from the Pukalani Superette. The project was faced with court challenges from Malama Maui.

In terms of the company’s Kapalua changes, the company is moving forward on its plans to demolish the Kapalua Bay Hotel and replace it with nine 3-6 story buildings with 155 units. The units will be divided in use with 90 sold as condominiums and another 65 going into high end time shares. The project at Kapalua will also include a bar and grill, spa and beach club.
