New Development for Kihei?

According to today’s Maui News, Alexander and Baldwin is initiating the steps necessary to create a new development on 93 acres in North Kihei. A&B has filed with the State Land Use Commission to have the property which is currently zoned agricultural to urban. The developer would allocate 68 acres to multi-family development, 25 acres to single-family units and 1.4 acres of commercial space. Other steps taken by the developer include having a floor plain analysis to determine if any of the proposed development would fall in a flood area. A&B reports the initial results suggest the property is outside of the flood plain. They are awaiting verification of this assessment from FEMA . These are initial steps in a long process. We will continue to monitor new information on this potential development.
