Opportunities in Hana

The weekend before last, the Jalbert family had an opportunity to head out to Hana with some friends for a couple of days. We were celebrating Billy’s wife’s birthday at the Waianapanapa cabins. Every time I go out to Hana, it is a blissful experience. The natural beauty and the pace of life combine to give me a sense of deep relaxation that I have felt at few other places on this planet. These same factors are what make Hana an appealing place for a full time residence or a second Home. Hana isn’t for everyone. The relative seclusion and absence of shopping and night life might deter some. However, those that are seeking a simpler life may find a home on the Eastern End of Maui. There is actually some pretty good inventory to choose from in Hana. Here are some of the listings that I think might be worth a look.

Beautiful setting from the deck of a home in Maka’alae

MLS 335905-This is a property that was recently listed by our office. Set on 9.5 acres up in the foothills of Maka’alae, this house and cottage offer a green, quiet escape from the world. The main house is a 2 bed/ 1.5 bath custom plantation home. The home features an open and airy floor plan, cathedral ceilings, hardwood floors and custom stone fire place. A large screened and covered lanai and expansive deck make for great outdoor living spaces. There is also a nice Bali style gazebo for outdoor contemplation. In addition to the main home, there is also a one bed/one bath cottage. Both home and cottage are powered by solar and use catchment water. There are great Pacific and Big Island views. This home is offered for $1,395,000.

Hana Plantation Lots– There are seven large agricultural lots being sold by Hana Plantation LLC just north of the Hana airport. All lots have beautiful views with good building sites. The lot sizes range from 5.68 acres up to 28.66 acres. Prices range from $695,000 up to $1,975,000. These lots are represented by Hana Coast Properties. The Jalbert brothers may represent you as buyer’s agents.

MLS 335533– This property strikes me as the best value in Hana at this time. The spacious, two story, cedar home is impeccably built with beautiful hardwoods and lots of high end amenities. It features one of the more robust private energy systems that I have seen on island with photovoltaic power backed by wind power and a top of the line quiet diesel generator. The property has a huge barn/workshop area with stalls for horses. Other equestrian facilities include a riding pen with turnout paddocks and grazing areas. For those that are not into horses, there are conversion plans for all of the different horse features of the property. The property has a variety of a fruit trees and a raised vegetable garden area. The best part of the home may be its setting. It is located in the beautiful Maka’alae area of Hana on a prominent knoll. The views are nothing short of spectacular. There are phenomenal vistas of Hamoa Beach, Alau Island, Sunrises, Moonrises and the Big Island. This listing has a very comprehensive website with a lot of photos and details on the property. The property is represented by Prudential Locations Maui. The Jalbert brothers may represent you as buyer’s agents.

Hotel Hana Condos View

Hotel Hana Condominiums– There are some luxury buyers who appreciate the spas and other amenities of Maui resorts like Wailea and Kapalua. However, they also want to be a little further away from the crowds. The condominiums at the Hotel Hana might be a good option. These beautiful and spacious 3 bedroom town home condos boast great views and high quality finishing. Owners have access to all the amenities of the Hana Hotel. The hotel has been rated one of the best small spa hotels in America.

Hana Ranch– This is one of the most unique listings in all of Hawaii. This property consists of over 4200 acres and includes three miles of oceanfront property. The elevation of the parcel ranges from sea level to a lofty 2200 feet. It includes a cattle operation with a herd of over 1200 that produces 1000 calves a year on average and two private water companies. Significant portions of the parcel are deeded conservation. This is a truly once in a lifetime opportunity to own a legacy agricultural and conservation property. This property is offered through Island Sotheby’s International Realty for $65,000,000. The Jalbert brothers may represent you as buyer’s agents.

These are just a handful of the great properties currently listed in Hana. Check out MauiRealEstate.com for all of the current Hana Properties for Sale. It is worth noting that the Hana market is slow to see price adjustments. While individual seller motivations may vary, this is a great place to make an offer.
