Perfect Weather in Pukalani
Pukalani is situated on the northwest side of Haleakala, with an elevation ranging from about 1,100 to 2,200 feet. It tends to have warmer days and cool nights due to its elevation. The area is drier than the neighboring town of Makawao. Its position further south on Haleakala blocks some of the tradewind showers. Pukalani translates to hole in the sky, meaning more abundant sunshine than other Upcountry communities.
Easy living Upcountry
Pukalani is just a short drive down Haleakala Highway to Central Maui’s shopping, businesses, and North Shore beaches. The town itself has the only two Upcountry grocery stores. The Kulamalu area features Upcountry’s only brewery, a great restaurant, and food trucks, and the Saturday Farmers’ Market is by far the largest on the island. The community is also centrally located if you are looking for families looking for other school options. It is a short drive to Seabury Hall, Carden, Haleakala Waldorf, and Montessori.
Golf and other Outdoor Activities
The only golf course Upcountry is in Pukalani. The Pukalani Country Club course is open to the public, reasonably priced, and offers big views of the ocean, Central Maui, and the West Maui Mountains. The Pukalani Recreation Center has a swimming pool with stunning views. There is also a skate park and walking trails next door. There is hiking and mountain biking nearby in Makawao and Kula. It is about 45 45-minute drive to the entrance of Haleakala National Park.
Entry-level to Upscale options
Pukalani offers a variety of housing options, ranging from townhomes to estate properties, with a significant amount of inventory in between. Lot sizes throughout the community vary from approximately 7,500 square feet to half an acre. For those interested in living on a golf course, Pukalani provides the most affordable entry point for golf course-front homes on the island. More upscale subdivisions include Kualono, Kulamalu Hilltop, The Residences at Kulamalu, and Kula 200. Kula 200 is the only subdivision in the community with homes situated on two or more acres.
