What is an RSS feed? I scanned around for a good non techy description and found the following quote from an article in XML.com.
“RSS is a format for syndicating news and the content of news-like sites, including major news sites like Wired, news-oriented community sites like Slashdot, and personal weblogs. But it’s not just for news. ”
The Maui Real Estate Blog like other blogs can be viewed via RSS feeds. If you look at the navigation bar on the right side of this page, you will see a link titled “RSS 2.0”. This link will take you to the RSS page for this site. Viewed through your web browser, an RSS feed does not mean much. It looks like a lot of HTML that lacks content. However, when you look at an RSS feed through a news aggregator, you will see titles of the most recent blog posts, in some cases a description of the blog post, and a link to the actual post. Some of the most widely used examples of RSS aggregators are pages like My Yahoo. You may already use My Yahoo to read headlines from your favorite news, sports and weather sites. You can also use My Yahoo to see the headlines from The Maui Real Estate Blog or other websites. Adding the Maui Real Estate Blog to your My Yahoo is as easy as clicking the My Yahoo button below the RSS button.
Other websites that offer aggregators or ways to subscribe to syndicated content include My MSN, Bloglines, Google Reader and NewsGator.
The beauty of these aggregators is that you can scan headlines from dozens of sites on a single page. If you are doing a lot of browsing and having a tough time keeping up with whats happening on Maui, think about adding The Maui Real Estate Blog to your favorite news aggregator.
