Snow on Maui (I am Serious This Time)

Topics

Maui’s North Shore and Upcountry woke to some stormy weather today with cool temperatures and rainy skies. Up on the summit of Haleakala, the combination of cool or in this case cold weather combined with precipitation to create a relatively rate site. When clouds parted from the summit, you could see a blanket of white.

Yep, that’s right it snowed last night. Cooler weather and precipitation from a nearby low pressure system led to a couple of inches of snow fall on the crown of our dormant volcano. The unsettled weather is forecast to stick around through the day with additional precipitation. The national weather service even issued a Winter Weather advisory with two to five inches of additional snow forecast possible to tomorrow morning with freezing levels dipping down all the way to 7,000 feet.
