With yesterday’s equinox, it is officially spring. The signs of Spring are evident on Maui. I noticed the neighborhood mango tree has started to fruit and I imagine it won’t be long before the Jacaranda start to bloom in the Upcountry. Spring is known for its steady tradewinds. They have been blowing for a little over a week after a long winter’s slumber. The surf along the north shore is growing smaller and our likelihood of high surf goes down with each passing day.
The wind and the smaller waves make for ideal conditions for kiting, surfing and paddling. While our temperatures do not change drastically on Maui, we do see seasonal changes in flora, fauna and weather. These subtle changes are something I have grown to appreciate more with each additional year I have lived on this beautiful island.
