Two Signs of Fall on Maui

It is a sticky rainy day on Maui. Hurricane Ana is passing to the south of the islands. The storm is close enough to bring us grey skies and steady rain, but far enough that there is no accompanying wind. That said, there are few on the island complaining about the weather. The forecast earlier in the week had Ana coming a lot closer and likely bringing some damaging winds. Today’s weather is also a far cry from some of the beautiful fall weather that we have been experiencing. Last week, I saw a couple of signs of fall on Maui that I thought were worth sharing. While we don’t get fall colors and there isn’t a drastic difference in temperature, the signs of fall are clear for those that look.

This first picture captures an image of fall that you might expect to see on the mainland. Then again, I think it is safe to say that this Upcountry Pumpkin Patch has better views than the average mainland pumpkin patch.

The two images above are a distinctly Hawaiian sign of fall. I took these photos at Ho’okipa Beach Park last week during the first High Surf Advisory of the season. Usually during late September or Early October, we see our first big swells of the year on the North Shore of Maui. The national weather service issues a high surf advisory when wave heights of 15 feet or greater are likely. The combination of big swells and steady trade winds brought out windsurfers and kitesurfers to sample nature’s offerings.

Ana is supposed to linger near the Hawaiian islands for a couple of days keeping the chance of rain in the forecast and maintaining humid conditions. By early next week, Ana should clear out and we will have a return to our beautiful fall weather.

Vote for Kai!

Today, we are taking a turn from the Real Estate world and making a shameless plug for Kai Lenny as stand up paddle (SUP) athlete of the year. Kai is the son of Maui Real Estate Team agent Martin Lenny. That being said, Kai is a more than worthy recipient of this award. Kai is the defending two time world SUP wave champ.

He has recently ventured more heavily into the world of stand up paddle racing. With Kai’s incredible talent and dedication, it didn’t take long for him to leave a mark in that segment of the sport. He has compiled a number of first place and top three finishes over the last couple of months.

Kai is also an accomplished waterman above and beyond the world of SUP. He is a pro windsurfer, a Naish team rider for Kiting, and was part of the crew paddling into the big waves at Jaws last season.

Put Kai in water and he thrives. Above all else, he is a great kid and a fantastic role model for aspiring pro surfers. You can vote for Kai Lenny for SUP Athlete of the Year here!

Fun in The Surf at Sugar Cove

Sugar Cove in Spreckelsville is one of the favorite beaches of The Maui Real Estate Team. This small North Shore beach is a fun spot for windsurfing, kiteboarding, SUP and surfing. It is also a fun spot for kids to get in the water. Most of the time, the waves are user friendly for kids to body board, body surf or just play. I took my Contour Roam for its first spin in the surf last weekend and took some video of my niece and nephew enjoying all that Sugar Cove has to offer.

If you are a water sports family in the market for a luxury condo, it is tough to beat the condos at Sugar Cove. Every once in a blue moon, condos will come up for sale in this fantastic North Shore beachfront complex. Check to see if there is any Sugar Cove Condos for Sale on MauiRealEstate.com. Contact The Maui Real Estate Team if you would like to be notified about new listings.

Videos of Hamoa Beach in Hana, Maui

I showed properties in Hana to some nice clients yesterday. While it can be a trek to get out to Hana, I welcome the opportunity to spend some time in one of the prettiest places on the planet. After my work was done, I took an hour to go play at Hamoa Beach before making the journey back to Paia. Here are a couple of videos I shot of Hamoa before and after a fun body surfing session.

Here is the current inventory of Hana and East Maui Homes for Sale. We are happy to arrange and accompany Hana showings with a couple of days notice. Contact The Maui Real Estate Team today for Hana assistance so I have a good excuse for my next visit to Hamoa Beach!
