The first events of the Maui Film Festival are set to kick off just as this blog post is sent off into cyberspace. This looks like another great festival that combines a little bit of Hollywood glitz, a lot of laid back Maui Style, salt water, independent film and a whole lot more. The centerpiece of the festival is the nightly Celestial Cinema. Movies are shown under the stars on the Wailea Emerald and Gold golf course. The slopes of Haleakala rise above the screen and the beautiful Pacific and outer islands are over your shoulder. Attendees are able to spread out blankets and beach chairs to enjoy the movies and the night sky.
In addition to the cinema, there are a variety of films playing at the Castle Theater of the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. There are also a number of fun events and parties scheduled including the always popular Taste of Wailea and Taste of Chocolate.
