This Weekend’s Activities

Topics

There a couple of events worth taking on the Valley Isle this weekend. Lahaina will be hosting its annual Na Kamehameha Pa’a Parade. The parade celebrates Hawaii’s most famous monarch. The parade will feature Pa’u princess riders on horseback, a marching band and colorful floats. It will run down Front Street from Kenui Street to Kamehameha Iki Park. Events will run all day from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with the parade slated to start.

The Maui Film Festival is slated to continue this weekend with events running in Wailea and at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. Check out the Wailea Film Festival complete schedule of events for more information on venues, movies and show times. I attended the Celestial Cinema on the opening night of the film festival on Wednesday. It was a great movie and of course a beautiful setting. I have a few recommendations for anyone who will be attending the Celestial Cinema.

1) Go Early! Pack a picnic and head to the event an hour or more before hand to ensure good seating. Late arrivals are more likely to end up on the side where the picture can look a little distorted.

2) Bring some warm clothes. Cool mountain air flows down the slopes of Haleakala at night making for cool crisp evenings. I went with a fleece top and shorts and was still pretty cool. I would suggest wearing long pants in addition to a sweater or a jacket.

These are just a couple of the of the great things happening on Maui this weekend. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Aloha Friday!
