Sunday, I had the opportunity to hike the Waihee Ridge Trail. This steep trail in the West Maui mountains is one of the better hikes on the island offering scenic vistas of Waihee Valley, The Pacific, North Shore, Central Maui and Haleakala. After quite a few stats posts of late, I thought a little Maui scenery would be a welcome change.
The trail gains 1560 feet of elevation over 2.6 miles so it is a bit of a thigh burner. Good footwear is advised as the trail can be pretty slick as you gain elevation. I have had a few friends say they had a tough time finding the trail. It is seven miles north of Wailuku on the Kahekili Highway. Look out for a sign saying Camp Maluhia BSA. The turn is across from the Mendes Ranch.
