The one way average commute time in the United States is currently 27 minutes. What if you could significantly cut your commute time? Better yet, what if you could cut that commute time while walking to work? That’s something that makes Wailuku Town pretty unique on Maui. Downtown Wailuku is home to county government, state government offices, medical facilities, law offices and a lot of other professional services. There is a mix of both single family residences and condos within easy walking distance of all of these workplaces.
In addition to being a hub of local government and business, downtown Wailuku also offers a variety of shops and restaurants. The Iao Theater hosts plays and other special events. The Wailuku Public Library is downtown as is Hale Hōʻikeʻike at the Bailey House. There’s a yoga studio and even a vintage bowling alley. Pre-pandemic, Wailuku First Friday was a great monthly town party. Hopefully, it gets back up and running at some point in the not so distant future. The campuses of Wailuku Elementary and Iao Intermediate School are both close to downtown.
Walkable Wailuku encompasses the homes and condos located within immediate walking distance of downtown. There are other areas that are similarly close, but we also took into account whether the access was pedestrian friendly. If they didn’t have sidewalk access, it should be along quieter side streets that might be more conducive to walking. Scroll down to see the current inventory of Walkable Wailuku properties.
